Natural Sciences at Cambridge University Application

Applying to Oxbridge is no simple feat.

As two of the world’s most prestigious universities, the competition to secure a place on any one of Oxford or Cambridge’s coveted courses is increasingly fierce, meaning that aspiring applicants need to be able to stand head and shoulders above the rest to be considered.

This is where the expertise of William Clarence triumphs. Our organisation is home to an expert team of Oxbridge entrance consultants, all of whom gained first-hand experience of the application process as successful Oxford and Cambridge graduates themselves.

With this and a multitude of additional UK university consultation expertise, we have been able to successfully support a vast number of students with Oxbridge applications interview preparation and more – including the student in this case study, who aimed to secure a place to study either Natural Sciences or Physics...

Background

An academically able Italian student approached William Clarence for support in making an application to the University of Oxford or the University of Cambridge to study either Natural Sciences or Physics respectively.

The William Clarence approach

After completing a full academic overview and considering the student’s ambitions for the long term, William Clarence’s experienced UCAS & Oxbridge Application Specialist Rebecca Dowbiggin identified suitable courses and universities within the student’s criteria, leading to a final shortlist ready for UCAS application, inclusive of the University of Cambridge (Natural Sciences).

Having detailed the nature of the collegiate system at Cambridge, we were able to offer insight into life at each of the various colleges to the student, suggesting how best to efficiently investigate both colleges and faculties during the university’s hectic open day.

Although the student was very academically able, she lacked some of the confidence needed for applying to Oxbridge and successfully passing an interview at either university. Our consultant, therefore, made building this confidence a priority.

Discussions of extended reading and Oxbridge applications interview preparation proved invaluable, and the student further supplemented her school studies with subject-specific preparation for the Cambridge NSAA (Natural Sciences Admissions Assessment).

Academic and general mock interviews were undertaken, and full reports detailing progress and improvement were provided at each stage of the process.

The result

In combination with the student’s determination and hard work, Rebecca Dowbiggin’s expertise and support enabled the student to build her confidence and submit outstanding applications to Oxford and Cambridge.

The student is now thrilled to be commencing their course at the University of Cambridge in September 2021.

“Rebecca Dowbiggin’s advice was critical for helping us to understand the process, as well as to understand what the university is looking for in their candidates… Rebecca demonstrated a sincere desire to help my daughter, providing her with invaluable insights which strengthened her confidence in her ability.”
